For Aging Hair, New Products From Cricket, Keranique and Keratin Complex

Keratin, a protein found in hair, is the star ingredient of many anti-aging products, though Dr. Alan J. Bauman, a hair expert, pointed out that “you can’t put keratin back into hair; you can only fill it in temporarily.” Here are a few recommendations.

Smooth Operator
Flat irons can sometimes dry out and damage hair. Cricket, a hair tools company, has come up with the Ultra Smooth Styling Iron, which has ceramic-coated plates infused with keratin protein for strength and argan oil to moisturize ($89.95 at folica.com and CricketCo.com).

Rice and Seaweed

Along with its Hair Regrowth Treatment, Keranique offers a line of keratin-enriched hair care products. It includes a shampoo and conditioner ($34.95 each), both of which contain siliqua seed extract and biotin, and a “lift” spray ($19.95) with hydrolyzed rice protein and carrageenan, a seaweed extract (keranique.com).

Powder Power

Keratin Complex, known for smoothing products, has a brush-on Volumizing Dry Shampoo Lift Powder ($35). The purse-size lemon-scented shampoo is applied at the root, where it’s intended to freshen and increase volume. There’s also a Sparkle + Shine Keratin Highlighting Powder, which is available in bronze, gold and copper shades and can offer a little tinted color at the roots between salon visits ($35 each at KeratinComplex.com).
